Flackwell's recent rise checked by league leaders

-

Flackwell Heath's recent rise up the Spartan South Midland Premier Division league was checked by the league leaders Leighton Town on Saturday as Marcus Richardson's side went down to a 2-1 defeat.

The Heathens have made an underwhelming start to the new campaign after being switched across from the Hellenic Premier Division, where they challenged for promotion last season before COVID-19 restrictions led to the season being terminated.

Two wins from their opening seven matches is hardly promotion form, however, Flackwell have improved of late so will be disappointed not to have taken something from the table toppers.

Adam Thomas fired them in front after just 20 minutes having unleashed a rasping shot that picked out the top corner, but Leighton are nothing if not resilient and they battled back to take a 2-1 advantage into the half-time interval.

Defeat leaves the Heathens 13th in the table ahead of Saturday's home game with 15th placed Crawley Green.

In the Combined Counties League Premier Division North, Burnham's rocky start to the season continued as they went down 5-2 at fifth placed North Greenford United.

Jayden Moore netted twice for the visitors, but those goals were cancelled out by a hat-trick from Charlie Mitchell and late goals from Kai JohnCharles and Harvey Kileen.

The Blues have won just one of their nine league matches to date but will be looking to start correcting that form at home to mid-table Spelthorne Sports this Saturday.

They sit 13th in the table with only a handful of clubs, including Holyport, beneath them in the standings.
