More gardens wanted for open weekend

-

MAIDENHEAD: The organisers of this summer’s Maidenhead Open Gardens Weekend are planning an even bigger event in 2022 after raising more than double their fundraising target in their first year.

Held on the last weekend in June, this year’s event saw a total of £6,473 raised for charities including Dementia Research, Thames Hospice and Maidenhead Blind Club. All 600 tickets sold out and additional funds were raised from the sale of refreshments and plants at some of the 24 gardens taking part.

Organisers from Maidenhead Rotary Club are now looking to expand next year’s event, due to be held on June 25-26, to include more gardens and raise even more money for good causes.

They want to hear from the owners of gardens in the Maidenhead area prepared to open their gates for a weekend celebrating gardening, tea, cakes and our community. Also being sought are more charity partners which might like to get involved.

Organiser Janet Perry said: “We are delighted by the success of this year’s

Open Gardens Weekend as a new event for Maidenhead and want to build on that for next year.

“As well as new gardens, we’re looking for new charity partners to come on board that can bring along some volunteers to help in particular clusters of gardens – for example at this year’s event Thames Hospice supported the Fisheries Residents Association

which raised £1,200 for the charity.

“This is a great way to help us expand the Open Gardens Weekend, and raise both significant funds and the profile of your charity.”
