United will take on the Shaymen after overcoming Isthmian League South East side Hastings United 3-1 at York Road in the final qualifying round.

Should they beat their in-form league rivals they’ll progress to the second round for the first time since the 1886-87 season. It’s been 135 years since Karl Benz applied for a patent to build the first automobile and, around the same time, Maidenhead United defeated South Reading 20 to move through to the second round of the cup before a 3-2 loss at home to Dulwich saw them exit the competition.

Halifax needed two bites of the cherry to get past Pontefract Collieries of the Northern Premier League Division 1 East in the last round, with Jack Vale scoring the only goal of their replay win at The Shay after the first tie in Pontefract finished goalless.

Winning clubs will receive £22,629 from the competition's prize fund.
