Driffill can fire Heath beyond ‘false’ position
Flackwell Heath FC: Ayres delighted by work rate of players since taking over
Flackwell Heath manager Chris Ayres believes striker Fabian Driffill can fire his team up the table and improve upon on what he calls their ‘false’ position in the Spartan South Midlands Premier League, writes Ben Hart.
Ayres has overseen three wins in his first four matches as manager, including a 3-1 triumph over Milton United in the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup on Tuesday night.
Yet he reiterated that his team ‘should be in a better position’ in the league and hopes his pleasing start as manager will continue at Aylesbury Vale Dynamos this weekend.
The form of Driffill, who has scored six goals in Ayres’ four games in charge, will be crucial to the team’s success.
Ayres said: “He’s a natural finisher. I’d like to think there is more to come from him. If we keep creating the chances he’ll definitely keep taking them.”
Driffill, and captain James Essex were on target as Flackwell progressed into the next round of the Berks and Bucks Cup.
The new man in charge is now hoping for a home draw against one of the bigger teams in the competition.
“Playing against Reading, or MK Dons, or Wycombe would provide great experience for the boys,” he said.
Confidence is sky high after the cup win and a 5-0 thrashing of Dunstable
Town at the weekend, and Ayres believes the team have so far shown just a glimpse of what they are capable of.
“We scored a couple where we played out from the back and through the thirds which is an example of how we want to play,” he said.
“We created loads of chances in the second half and kept a clean sheet too which was great.”
Ayres says he hasn't had to alter too much after taking over from Marcus Richardson and has been delighted by the work rate of the talented group.
He said: “The boys have brought into what we’re trying to do. I’ve been pleased with every single one of them.”
“We really want them to enjoy playing for the club because it’s a great club, we have a lot of local young players in there and that’s great for the future.”
