Megan's run for charity that's close to her heart

Megan Halfacree will not be resting on her laurels this weekend, despite the team not having a league or cup game, as she will be taking on the Windsor & Eton Half Marathon to raise money for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) UK.

The cause is very close to Megan’s heart as she sadly lost her brother to the condition in 2001.

Saturday’s date is also special to Megan and her family as she will be running the half marathon on what would have been her brother’s 21st birthday.

Megan has been an ever-present member of manager Ryan Taylor’s squad this season and was again patrolling the left side of the field in Sunday’s narrow 1-0 home defeat to Swindon Women. Megan warmed up for this weekend’s marathon by completing the Blenheim Palace Triathlon in September. She said: “I will be running my first ever half marathon to raise money for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)

UK. This is a charity close to my heart as in 2001 I sadly lost my brother to SMA. What makes this half marathon even more special to me, is that it takes place on my brother's 21st birthday.

"Now, I'm used to running for 90 minutes on a football pitch but running a half marathon will be a real challenge given that I've never run further than 10km in one go before. However, I'm always up for a challenge and I'd be so grateful for any donations to help out this amazing charity.”

SMA is a charity that campaigns for improved research and aims to ensure that everyone affected by the condition can get access to the best care, services and treatments available.

She has already doubled her fundraising target of £500 and would appreciate any further donations. Visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/megan-halfacree to donate.
