Injury jinx strikes in defeat

-

Maidenhead United Women were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Swindon Town Women in the FAWNL Division 1 South West, and suffered further injury misfortune in the process. The Magpies have been struck by a goalkeeping injury jinx in the last few weeks, with Alice East suffering a groin strain on her debut. The side have used four keepers so far this season and manager Ryan Taylor handed Lola Pollard another start, but her afternoon was brought to a premature, and slightly worrying conclusion when she was briefly concussed after colliding with the post smothering a rare Swindon chance. Defender Gemma Bloor was forced to don the gloves but in truth had little to do.

The visitors had taken the lead against the run of play in the 10th minute through Victoria Taylor.

Maidenhead piled on the pressure in the closing stages but weren't able to claim a deserved leveller with top scorer Nicole Barrett firing over the bar.
