Diana Joy Griffin (nee Prout)

- Of Sherwood Lane, Worcester.

It is with great sadness that the children of Diana Joy Griffin

(nee Prout) announce her death following a short battle with latediagnosed cancer.

Diana was born in wartime Britain to Freda and Dennis Prout of Winsmore Lane, Abingdon-on-Thames on 16/06/1941, later residing in Saxton Road and Caldecott Gardens with her younger siblings Barry and Sheila. Diana went to The University of Hull to study Maths in 1959 after which she became a secondary school Maths teacher. In her younger years she enjoyed travelling with her cousin Wendy and spent many happy times with her wider family in Hungerford.

Di married Robert (Bob)Griffin in 1968 at St. Helens Church in Abingdon, before they moved to Birmingham to start their early teaching careers and a family. Nicholas, Christopher and Peter were all born in the Northfield area, after which the family relocated to Mercia Road in Cox Green, Maidenhead, where their fourth child Penelope

Joy was born.

After taking a career break to care for her young family, Di returned to teaching at Langleywood School in Slough, where Bob was headmaster and where many great friends were made. After moving to Lees Close, later teaching years were spent at Cox Green Comprehensive School in Maidenhead, right up to her retirement in 2003.

The loss of Bob to cancer in 1997 shook the family greatly and Di never found another partner in life. After helping to care for her granddaughter Lizzie Joy Charlie during her early years, Diana then made the move to Worcester in 2010 to downsize from the family home and to be near to her daughter and grandchildren, Theodore and Oscar. Diana was creative and enjoyed knitting in her youth, making tapestries, and moving to cross stitch in later years until crippling hand arthritis made needling too painful. She continued to enjoy quiz shows, flower arranging, sudokus and puzzles, and was an avid reader until her illness took away all energy for her hobbies.

Diana passed away at her home in Worcester in the early hours of Wednesday 27 October, with her family by her side. Diana adored and was adored by all her family, and will be greatly missed. However, her fulfilling life will be remembered by those who knew her with great affection.

Diana’s funeral will take place at Worcester Crematorium on Friday 19th November at 12.15, followed by a celebration of her life. If anyone wishes to contact the family directly they can contact Penni on 07795 072313. Any charitable donations in Diana’s memory are asked to be made to The Cinnamon Trust – The National Charity for the Elderly, the Terminally ill and their pets.
