MAC rock up in record numbers for run on The Brocas

-

Record numbers of Maidenhead Athletic Club (MAC) members showed up on The Brocas at Eton on Sunday for the second Thames Valley Cross County race of the season.

Hosted by the Datchet Dashers, the event takes place on a large open meadow on the Eton side of the River Thames, but the fast, flat, start often catches runners out.

Adam Bennett was first home for the club in eighth place, quickly followed by Tom Easten, while Becky Atkinson, the club’s first female finisher, wasn’t far behind either as she came home to win the women’s race. Kirsty Matthews and Sarah Leach, on her first outing for the club, were second and third for MAC.

Those who had finished then formed a red wall to cheer remaining MAC members over the finish line. Louise Rawlings also ran well on her debut for the club.

Lesley Kernaghan took on the attritional Endurance Life Coastal 10k in Oxwich, Wales on Saturday.

The event on the Gower peninsula starts on the beach and dunes and heads through a wooded trail before returning to the coast. Lesley finished in 1.19.13 and was first in her age category.
