Blues bring an end to ‘terrible run of form’
Burnham put an end to a 'terrible run of form', and picked up their first victory of Manny Williams' reign as Blues boss in Friday's 3-0 win over derby rivals Holyport.
Like Holyport, the Blues have been struggling at the wrong end of the Combined Counties Premier Division North table and hadn't won in seven matches heading into the clash at Summerleaze Village.
During that time, they'd also seen Ash James move on as manager for family reasons and competing commitments, so it was a big relief for Williams to see his side get back to winning ways.
The result was good enough to lift the Blues from 17th second bottom - to 14th in the table, and Williams is confident they'll now be on an upward trajectory for the remainder of the campaign.
Speaking this week, he said: “First and foremost it was important for us to put in a good performance and try and get a result as well.
“We went there with the mindset of knowing we'd had a terrible run of form, and we were aware that we needed to get some sort of result from the game.
“We wanted to bring something back with us.
“We haven't been on a good run, but there have been some good performances in that run.
“When your luck is down it's down, and that's what it's been like.
“We've not had the results we've needed or required, but Friday is the turnaround we've needed and hopefully that will spur us on for the rest of the season. The table didn't make for pretty reading, but it's not where we should be with the talent we have. Results are results though and that's where we deserve to be.”
Williams was impressed with his side's desire and work rate at Holyport, especially when they came under the cosh in the second half, and he'll be hoping they produce a similar display at home to Virginia Water on Saturday, the side that's just above them in the table.
