Town fire three past United without reply

-

Having gone three games without a victory in the Thames Valley Premier League, Maidenhead Town got back to winning ways over local rivals Marlow United.

On Saturday, Town won 3-0, thanks to Jake Wheeler (7’) Aleksandar Yankov (21’), and

Ashley Lamb (83’), condemning United to a second league defeat on the trot.

The game was played with a freezing gale blowing across the Bisham Abbey pitch, but they were conditions that the home side used to good effect in a physical encounter.

Beating his marker for pace, Wheeler opened the scoring with a well-placed shot past the diving Jo Mantle inside 10 minutes.

Maidenhead proceeded to dominate the early exchanges and were able to coolly double their advantage just after the 20 minute mark, the ball falling to an unmarked Yankov in the area who had the space and time to pick his corner of the net.

The hosts wrapped up the scoring within the game’s final 10 minutes when Lamb caught the opposition napping and carried the ball comfortably past Marlow’s defence before crashing the ball into the far corner of the goal.

As a result, Maidenhead Town move into sixth place in the division while Marlow slip into 12th. The teams respectively play Wraysbury and Westwood Wanderers next.

W Elsewhere in the league, leaders Finchampstead suffered a shock, 1-0 , defeat to Windlesham and Chobham, Wraysbury were thumped, 7-1, by Wargrave, while Richings Park trounced Mortimer, 6-1.

Reading City u23s were not in competitve action.
