A sea of red Maidenhead Athletic

Club (MAC) vests were visible on the start line for the Woodley Cross Country this weekend, the event taking place in boggy, muddy conditions.

The team were led home by Adam Bennett in 10th place, closely followed by Craig West in 18th, while Mel

Tudor was the first home in the women’s race in 12th and was chased all the way by Ellen Easten in 16th.

The club’s scorers in this, the fourth race event of the series, were: 10th Adam Bennett; 18th Craig West 29th; Peter Church; 66th Herve Bavazzano; 71st Alex Del Campo; 72nd Andy Cleasby. Women's race scorers: 12th Mel Tudor; 16th Ellen Easten; 26th Sarah Simms; 35th Heather Smith.

For the majority of MAC’s u11s girls’ team this was their first experience of the slightly chaotic world of sportshall athletics, writes Steve Francis.

As expected, there were some nerves, but also great excitement as the team competed across a variety of track events to record the fastest times. The standard across most of the events, from high stepper to speed bounce, was very high. In the javelin, Lily and Jude took the two top spots, both throwing 12m.

On the track Kaiya and Lily showed their character to recover from stumbles to give their absolute best..

Seven u11s boys also made their Sportshall athletics debut for the club on Sunday.

Andrew Gillespie impressed in the 1-lap hurdle and chest push, while Lukas McLachlan performed well in the 1-lap obstacle course and standing long jump. Nate Hawkins was outstanding in the high stepper and also ran well in the 1-lap race. Samuel Dolphin also put in strong performances in the javelin and high stepper. William Oliver was rapid in the speed bounce and jumped well in the long jump. Charley Hatch impressed in the two-lap race and put in a super performance in the speed bounce. There was also an agile performance from Gianluca Carlo in the high stepper and 1-lap obstacle race.

W The Berkshire County Cross Country Championships are also being held at Copas Fruit Fields in Cookham on Sunday.

Runners aged from u13s to seniors and masters will be taking part in a series of races around the farm land.
