Desborough progress after victory by a single shot

-

Desborough Ladies progressed to the next round of the Mason Trophy after beating Whiteknights A team by just a single shot.

A nail-biting game between the sides went down to the wire with Desborough emerging victorious by 28-27.

The rink skipped by Lorraine Woodley began slowly but started to pick up shots once they'd settled. A nip and tuck battle eventually went the way of hosts Whiteknights 16-14, but back at Desborough, the rink skipped by Helen Jones did enough for the team to squeeze home for victory.

Always in control the hosts ran out winners by three shots to set up a match against county rivals West Berks in the next round.

Rink scores: Home; J Williams, V Linton-Phare, N Holder, H Jones 14 – 11: Away; G Braddock, J Beal G O’Neill, L Woodley 14 – 16.

The ladies also made smooth progress to the next round of the Yetton Trophy, beating Swindon Manor by 28 shots.

Three rink wins and a draw on the other were enough for Desborough to claim a comprehensive 83-55 victory.

The winning rinks were skipped by Helen Jones, Mary Price and Jenny Morgan (left) with Lorraine Woodley guiding her team to a draw. They will face North Wilts in the next round on January 8.
