Dan enjoys dream debut at York Road

-

As debuts go, they don’t come much better than Daniel Gyollai for Maidenhead United against promotion chasers Bromley on Tuesday afternoon.

The Hungarian stopper, on loan from Peterborough United, pulled off a string of fine saves to help his new side to a much needed, and well-deserved 1-0 win.

The Magpies players put in a huge shift to claim only their third clean sheet of the season and, when Bromley did manage to break through, Gyollai was there to thwart them with an agile save.

Nathan Blissett headed home the game’s only goal midway through the second half, and Gyollai told the Magpies’ media officer Grace Scott afterwards he couldn’t have hoped for a better introduction to life at York Road.

The win was of significance at both the bottom and top of the table, lifting the Magpies three points clear of the relegation zone ahead of Saturday’s crucial looking home game with Wealdstone, the side just above them in the National League standings.

Bromley’s hopes of moving top of the table, meanwhile, were also dashed with the result leaving them fifth, just two points behind league leaders Chesterfield.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better game,” said Gyollai.

“Bromley are a great team and they're flying up the table.

“We’ve had a few days of training together and I have got to know everyone great. They have accepted me, so it couldn’t have gone any better.

“It’s brilliant (the reception from the York Road crowd) and I appreciate it a lot.

“It’s just nice to be accepted and welcomed straight away.

“Training has been good, and it’s been good to know a new set of lads. Everyone is together.

“The fortunes haven’t been great up until now but hopefully this will turn things around.”
