Sophie impresses on indoor debut for Maidenhead

Sophie McLachlan impressed on her indoor debut, securing two new personal bests at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre on January 2.

The u15s runner clocked 29.96 to win her 200m heat and 2.39 to claim another victory in the 800m.

At the Woodcote 10k in South Oxfordshir­e, Maidenhead Athletic Club’s (MAC) found out that what goes down, must come up over a challengin­g course. The first 5km was mainly downhill, with 370ft of descent, however, the second half of the race was mainly uphill with 358ft of ascent, including 233ft in the sixth mile alone. First home for the club was Herve Bavazzano in a chip time of 42.20, closely followed by Anthony Hall with a chip time of 42.31. Greg Marsh was the third MAC member home in 46.19.

Sarah Simms, the club’s first female finisher, wasn’t far behind in 47.59 and she also finished third in her age category. Heather Smith was the next to cross the finish in 49.11 and Alice Robinson was third in 56.48. Pauline Siddons won the over 70s category with a chip time of 58.15.
