Windsor begin 2022 with a crucial win

-

Windsor RFC kicked off 2022 in positive fashion, snapping a three-game losing streak to beat Buckingham 17-14 at home.

It’s been an unsettled campaign so far for the Royals, with Jack Pattinson stepping down as head coach due to his coaching commitments at London Irish and Neal Kennedy taking over.

The side had struggled for form and consistency over the first few months of the season, losing 10 of their 13 fixtures, and heavy defeats to Witney (43-5) and Banbury (17-54) did not bode well for the second half of the campaign.

However, the home side showed their character to beat Buckingham on Saturday, one of the sides in and around them in the South West 1 East table.

The win sees them move up to 10th in the table, ahead of Saturday’s game at Chippenham, the team who sit just below them in the table, level on 21 points.

W Slough also returned to action on Saturday with a disappointing 17-10 defeat at Chesham in the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier Division.

It leaves the Greenies fifth in the table ahead of this weekend’s home game with mid-table Chipping Norton.

Drifters picked up their third league win of the season in the same division, beating bottom of the table Crowthorne 20-0 away from home.

It leaves them 10th in the table ahead of Saturday’s home game with third placed Didcot.
