Maids rally against Reading after defeat
Maidenhead Men’s 1st team squandered a chance to lift themselves from the depths of the Premier Division 1 table as they lost 3-1 away to Staines on Saturday.
Phil Cowell and his men were looking to kick off the new year in ideal fashion and were presented with a favourable opening tie against a side that were winless in their last five matches.
Maids were also only a handful of points below Staines before the game began and were coming into the game on the back of a victory against Milton
Keynes. In contrast, the men were able to hold second-placed Reading 2nds to a 0-0 draw on Tuesday evening.
These recent results combined keep Maidenhead entrenched in 11th place of the division. They return to home turf on Saturday to face Slough (10th) for what promises to be an entertaining, and rewarding, local derby. W Maidenhead Women’s 1st team are gearing up to face Oxford this Saturday.
The two sides last met at Altwood
School (October 2) with the visitors triumphing, 4-1. Results since then have guided Maidenhead into fifth and Oxford one place above in Premier Division 1.
Maids will be feeling reasonably confident approaching this second encounter having drawn one and won four of their last five competitive matches.
Oxford, meanwhile, will still hold a considerable advantage over the side if they were to lose but will undoubtedly go all out for the win after they were defeated in their last outing.
