Surprise for Mo but PBs for MAC

Maidenhead Athletic Club: Runners hit streets of London for Vitality 10k

-

There was a surprise result in the Vitality 10k in London on Sunday, as former Olympic champion, Mo Farah, was forced to settle for second behind club runner Ellis Cross - who had to pay his £37 entry fee.

But several Maidenhead Athletic Club (MAC) members also took part with proceeds from the entry fees going to charities supporting Ukraine.

There were personal bests for Clare Nash and Jo Barnett, while Judi Jeffries ran her quickest time in 15 years.

MAC's Peter Hodges was quickest for the club, finishing in 39:44.

Results: Peter Hodges - 39:44; Jo Barnett - 51:40; Clare Nash 1:01:04; Ruth McKenzie - 1:01:06; Steve Overbury - 1:01:27; Judi Jeffries - 1:11:23; Sani Koch - 1:18:42; Rich Pink - 1:18:43.

There was also no bank holiday lie-in for the 17 MAC members who took part in the Shinfield 10k on Monday, the latest race in the MAC road running championship.

The event was back on after a two-year absence and was also well supported.

Laurence Miles posted MAC's fastest chip time of 36:19 and

Herve Bavazzano 40:10 finishing just outside a sub-40 finish in 40:10.

Two MAC members took on the Milton Keynes Marathon, with Sayeed Islam finishing in 3:46:33 and Anthony Hall clocking just 3:15:32.

Kirtsy Matthews was the quickest of the club's finishers in the Hurstbourne 5, finishing in

36:20. Paul Sharp ran 39:10; Graham Matthews - 39:30; Rich Pink - 59:05; and Sani Koch - 83:39.

Finally, John Scaife and Benita ran the Serpentine 5k on Friday. The standard was very high, with the first 14 finishers all under 17 minutes, and first V80 ran 26:11. All this spurred Benita to her first sub-30 min 5k in a while at 29:27 with John one second behind.
