Defeat at Falkland slips Green into second place

Stoke Green have been knocked off first place in Thames Valley League Division 1 after losing at Falkland on Saturday with just a few games left of the season to play.

Upon winning the toss and electing to bat first, the home side managed a whopping 277 all out from 48.5 overs with steadfast contributi­ons coming from Anthony Hennis (50) and Brandon Gilmour (81).

Gurveer Singh did well to stifle Falkland’s latter batting order, taking 6-52 with the ball.

In reply, Green were well suppressed by James Bird (336) and Charlie Dale (3-25) as the side totted up 144 all out from 32.3 overs. The best batting performanc­e came from Kashif Abassi (36).

Sixth-placed Cookham Dean picked up a morale boosting 16-run win against fourth-placed Boyne Hill.

Batting first on foreign turf, Dean obtained 279-7 from 50 overs thanks to Shahzad Asghar (34), Jake Lawson (41), James Isbell (52), Deswin Currency (27), Greg Davis (26), and Will Dempster (48no).

Hill came close in the chase, achieving 263 all out from 48.5 overs owed to James Hammerton’s 63, Imran Butt’s 79, and captain Ziya Mohamed’s 29 runs. Sohil Mangat, meanwhile, claimed 4-44.

Elsewhere in the division, Burnham are back off the bottom following their fivewicket victory at Eversley.

Inserting themselves to bat first, the home side were restricted to 249-8 from 50 overs with Adnan Shabbir claiming 3-17 with the ball.

With the bat, Burnham managed 250-5 from 41.3 overs with strong knocks coming from Rehmat Ullah (69), Zain Ishaq (72no), and Adnan Malik (59no).

Marlow have slipped out of the top five and into sixth place after losing to

Uxbridge by a slender four runs in Division 2A.

Choosing to bat first, Uxbridge totted up 280-7 from 50 overs with usual star spinner Harry Spear (2-95) struggling to contain the consistent batting order.

James Martin’s men were strong in the chase but fell just short with 276-8 from 50 overs with notable figures coming from Will Bovill (54), Kester Charlemagn­e (72), and Jonathan Yarwood (32no).

Having beaten Kew by seven wickets, Wraysbury find themselves in third place this week.

Kew managed 287-8 from 50 overs batting first, chiefly restricted by Andy Prasad and Guy Sheena who took 245 and 2-43 respective­ly.

In the second innings, Wraysbury obtained 288-3 from 48.3 overs with Prasad (123) top scoring after Jayesh Mohan’s (97) impressive contributi­on with the bat.

In Division 2B, thirdplace­d Reading defeated ninth-placed Royal Ascot by eight wickets.

Following a 58-run win over Finchampst­ead 2nds, Hurst keep the pressure on the top three of the division.

In Division 3A, Theale & Tilehurst beat White Waltham (10th) by four wickets, Windsor (fourth) lost to Kidmore End by 31 runs, and Thatcham Town (eighth) bested Wargrave 2nds by five wickets.

In Division 3B, Maidenehad & Bray strengthen­ed their position in third with a 45-run against Datchet 2nds, while Farnham Royal fall to ninth thanks to a 78-run loss from Stoke Green 2nds.

Elsewhere, Taplow (fifth) lost to Henley 3rds by 72 runs in Division 4A, while Hillingdon Manor beat Wooburn Narkovians (second) by five wickets and Beaconsfie­ld 2nds beat Farnham Common (fifth) by 46 runs in Division 4B.
