Ryan Peters praises Maidenhead United’s resilience after a tense finale

-

Assistant manager Ryan Peters hailed the resilience shown by Maidenhead United after they had a comfortable afternoon against Scunthorpe United turn into a scrappy affair.

At the end of the first half, the Magpies appeared in command and unlikely to concede but two goals from Iron striker Joe Nuttall made the contest look a lot more even at full-time.

For Peters, obtaining maximum points is all that mattered after the

Magpies were ‘taught a lesson’ by Notts County last week.

“Three points are three points,” he said. “We went into half-time 3-0 up and the first thing we said to the boys was ‘for the first 15 minutes of the second half, see it out, don’t concede any goals’.

“But, as you saw, within the first two-and-a-half minutes we let one in.

“They did score another, but I’d say we weathered the storm after that. Going downhill at York Road is just that little bit more difficult but we were mostly comfortable and really resilient. “I think the quality of our crosses were good and we did tweak our tactics just slightly to the normal way we would play at home because of the heat. It worked and that was brilliance from the gaffer (Alan Devonshire).

“On Saturday, we got taught a lesson by Notts County. We learnt that very quickly and made sure it didn’t happen against another side that plays flowing football.

“We won every battle that we needed to win and scored some really good goals. I’m happy.”
