MAC’s members attend final meet at Biggleswade

Rhys Feaviour wins 400m to get club off to a good start at last event

-

It was another hot day as the troops made their way down to Biggleswade athletics track to compete at the last Southern Athletics league meeting of the season, writes Roy Feaviour.

Everyone was looking forward to performing to the best of their abilities throughout the day in numerous events.

We only had a team of 11 competitors, but what we lacked in quantity we certainly made up for in quality.

The day started as usual with Rhys Feaviour having to borrow yet another pole from a competitor; it was not one of his better vaulting days, he only managed to vault 1.90m he then ran off to compete in the 400m where he won the race and scored maximum points for the team to get us off to a good start.

The events came thick and fast and there were Maidenhead athletes moving from one event to another throughout the day. We as usual had Jack and Hannah performing well in the jumps, with Hannah getting a PB in the High Jump 1.40m which was a 10cm improvement.

It was good to see Abbie back from injury and competing. She finished a creditable second in the 1500m and along with that she competed in the long jump and high jump where she got a massive PB at 1.48m. She also competed very well in the javelin alongside Hannah.

There was a first-time competitor in Raja Khan who competed very well in the long jump and 200m.

Jon Oliver and Tim Williams were again throwing everything in sight in shot, discus, hammer and javelin. On the track, Tim did 100m, 200m and 400m with Jon doing 1500m.

Christian competed in the 800m along with Craig West and both competed very well. Craig ran a PB of 2 minutes 10 seconds.

Leila was only able to compete

in shot put as she was also officiating. Thanks for your hard work.

Last but no means least team manager Gordon Britton; he was all over the place supporting the team and making changes to events as athletes decided to do extra events whilst competing in numerous events himself. He was able to produce some good performances.

There was a great performances from both our relay teams.

There was a second place in the 4x100m relay team, this was led by Gordon taking the first leg and getting the team of to a great start, he passed the baton onto Raja who flew down the back straight and brought the team into second place. He passed the baton onto Jack who flew round the bend and kept the team in second. Jack handed the baton onto Rhys who flew home to well-earned second place for the team.

The mixed 4x400m team produced a club record performance. They were led off by Christian who ran a fantastic leg. Then he passed it over to Abbie who produced a fast run, passing the baton onto Hannah who produced yet another good leg. Hannah passed the baton onto Rhys who brought the baton home in a new club record of 4.30.3.

Well done to all those athletes that competed, but we could not do this without the backing of our Officials. Thank you to all of you especially in those hot conditions. What a great day enjoyed by all.

W Ritvik Ganta represented MAC at the Basingstoke AC Open Meet on Wednesday August 17th for 100m. Ritvik ran an impressive 13.62s, his personal best now beating his previous PB which was set last week at Watford open.

The weather was not so great, it was raining heavily till the event start and then the race ended up in a drizzle.
