Johnson: ‘I have a lot of belief in myself and Port’

-

Having been the man to put Holyport two goals to the good before Brendan Matthew’s finish for Ascot United, Christian Johnson says he was feeling the love when he wheeled off in celebration.

Johnson was announced to have joined Port earlier this month (August 4) and has not only helped his new side into the first round qualifying of the FA Cup for the first time in their history but enjoyed a fine individual season so far.

The forward excelled in Holyport’s extra preliminary round win over Risborough Rangers, scored in the side’s season opener against Harefield United, and performed astutely when he came off the bench against Chalfont St Peter.

Reflecting on his performance against the Yellamen on Saturday, Johnson said to Holyport’s media officer Aidan Walters:

“I’ve got a lot of belief in myself at the moment, I’ve got a lot of belief in the team as well.

“Everyone is around each other and it makes it easier doing what I want to do when everyone else is playing well.

“It was a weird one [when I scored] because you never know whether to go to the subs bench, the manager, or your friends on the side of the pitch.

“It’s a special moment when you score and everyone you love is around you.

“It’s a good feeling.

“It was a good win to be fair. We’ve got a young team so to do all of this quite early in our careers [is great].

“We’ve won two games on the bounce [in the FA Cup] against two teams with great players and a lot of money so it feels good.”
