Cole calls on Magpies to find their shooting boots

Cole Kpekawa strongly believes Maidenhead United should have earned more than a 1-1 draw from their National League clash against FC Halifax Town and added that the Magpies need to start being more clinical in front of goal.
The defender fired the Magpies into the ascendancy with a fine effort on Saturday but his first goal in a black-and-white shirt – having signed from Hemel Hempstead Town in July – was cancelled out by Jordan Slew’s equaliser in the second half.
Kpekawa was left thoroughly disappointed with the outcome at York Road and called on his teammates to re-double their efforts for Saturday's game at Wrexham.
“I’m happy to get off the mark as I’ve been unlucky not to score earlier on in the season, especially against Dagenham (& Redbridge),” he said. “But I’m a bit fuming we didn’t win.
“We lost two points today. We had so many chances to win the game, we just didn’t take them, and it was all a bit frustrating to be honest.
“At half-time we were told to keep doing what we were doing, don’t take our foot of the gas, don’t start trying to defend by sitting deep. We just had to keep going and try to get an early goal to kill them off. But, as I said, we just didn’t take our chances.
“For their goal, we weren’t switched on and we didn’t get organised quick enough. We’ve got to do better.
“Now we’ve got to try and bounce back against a tough side in Wrexham.”
With no Tuesday night fixture, Maidenhead United will be blessed with some extra training sessions before they journey to the Racecourse Ground this weekend.
The Dragons are currently flying high in second place with five wins, one draw, and just the solitary loss.
Their most recent victory was a 5-0 demolition of Dorking Wanderers away from home.
“It will certainly be a test against Wrexham,” said Kpekawa.
“They are a good team and they have spent big, but I feel like we’ve got enough in the changing room to get something. We’ve got to believe that. If you don’t believe, then there’s no point getting on the coach.
“I believe we can do a lot better. We need to start taking our chances and we are conceding some very soft goals for our liking too.
“We’ve had two set pieces go against us in the last two games. Today, I think the goal has come from a throw in and we’re just not turned on quick enough. If we tidy up a little bit in that department, then we’ll be alright.”
