Port snatch a very satisfying point

Holyport FC: Lock delighted to see hosts fight back with only nine men

-

Snatching a point against Egham Town deep into injury time, with only nine men on the pitch, was a great source of satisfaction for Holyport boss Sam Lock when he reflected on an incident packed 22 draw this week.

Port found themselves trailing 0-1 at the break following a wellconverted penalty from the Sarnies, however, they were soon back on terms when Andy Forisky volleyed home shortly after halftime.

Parity was short lived however, with Egham managing to get their noses back in front just two minutes later, and they held that lead until the dying embers of the game.

After spurning a series of chances, Port’s hopes looked bleak heading into stoppage time. And Lock must have thought it wouldn’t be his side’s day when Fabien Etienne and Ramon Rose were both sent off on the stroke of full-time. However, when all hope seemed lost, the side created one more opportunity, and Christian Johnson popped up with a 95th minute leveller.

They may not have won yet in the league, but they’ve also lost just the once, meaning Lock can be fairly satisfied with his side’s start to the season.

Afterwards, he said: “I think it was a game of very little quality if I’m being honest.

“The wind played a major part, it was quite a firm pitch on the day, and it was just a fight in the middle, more or less.

“I’m disappointed for us to concede the penalty. The ball was going out of play, we got too tight, and their player went down. No arguments from me.

“We scored a very well-worked goal shortly after half-time but almost immediately gave one away

from a long throw in. It was a terrible one to concede.

“I’m very disappointed with how we ended up with nine men on the pitch, so creating numerous opportunities after and scoring an equaliser in the last minute was very satisfying.”

Salvaging a share of the spoils in the final seconds against Egham takes Port’s tally of draws this season to four from five games.

Lock knows they’ll have to start turning these draws into wins if they're to climb the table but he’s confident that first win is just around the corner.

“Once we get a win, we will be a really dangerous team to play because

of the confidence it will give the boys,” said Lock.

“From one game to the next there’s injuries, there’s problems, so it’s been hard to pick up a win. We had three players go off against Binfield plus a suspension. Then in the following game we had two off before half-time so it’s just a run of bad luck. That will change for us.

“With bodies coming back, we’re going to be strong, we know we are.

“I am not the type of person to go and chase players to sign. I have had numerous people contact me from higher leagues, lower leagues, all over the place, but I am trusting my squad.”
