New manager appointed after ‘tricky period’
Maidenhead United Women last week announced the appointment of Ed JacksonSankey as team manager at the end of a tricky preseason where recruitment for a replacement for outgoing manager Ryan Taylor has proven difficult.
29-year-old Ed arrives at York Road with a wealth of experience behind him, having worked in a variety of coaching, analysis and support roles with the likes of Aldershot Town, Oxford City, Reading FC and
Slough Town. Ed also has experience in women’s football having worked with Portsmouth FC Women. His management team will also consist of new Women’s Football Operations Lead Robin Mallinson, Coach Niall Irwin, Goalkeeping Coach Fred Stevens and Strength & Conditioning Coach Andrew Smith.
On appointment JacksonSankey commented: “I’m incredibly humbled and privileged to have been entrusted with continuing the growth of Maidenhead United Women. The project here is an exciting one and I’m excited for people to see where this next chapter takes us.”
Jackson-Sankey was thrilled with a comfortable County Cup victory at
Ascot in his first match and reflected: “We knew coming into the game that we were potentially a bit undercooked after a difficult preseason. In the first 20 minutes with new ideas it looked a bit erratic and it looked a little bit like we were potentially underprepared. But once the girls settled down and relaxed into the game you could see we were a lot more comfortable.
“We dominated the ball and the amount of times we were able to go from back to front, playing through the thirds using the rotations within our formation and using some of the things we had started to implement in training was really really positive.”
