Marlow buried by the Moles once again in the cup

-

Having lost 4-0 in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy against Binfield a few weeks ago, Marlow suffered once again at the hands of the Moles on Tuesday evening, going down 3-0 away in the Velocity Cup.

For whatever reason, the Blues haven’t been able to replicate their fine league form in the cup competitions this season.

Successive 3-0 victories over Chipstead and Ashford Town have lifted Mark Bartley’s side to third in the Isthmian League South Central Division, however, there have been first qualifying round exits in both the FA Cup and FA Trophy, and now this 3-0 away reverse in the Velocity Cup.

The Moles scored all their goals in the second half, Liam Gavin pouncing to get their first in the 61st minute before Brad Pagliaroli, from the penalty spot in the 76th minute, and Johnny Efedje 83’ rubber-stamped victory for a Moles side who are yet to taste defeat this season in any competition. They’ve managed this despite some managerial upheaval that’s seen joint managers Carl Withers and Jamie McClurg leave to join Bracknell Town with Garry Haylock replacing them in the hot seat.

Bartley reflected: “With 11 changes it was clear that whilst we had lots of endeavour, we lacked a bit of knowhow and experience. Which in the end is probably what cost us. Still, many positives to take from tonight, including encouraging debuts for two of our U23s squad.”

W Windsor were also in cup action on Tuesday evening with Mick Woodham’s men successfully overcoming Wallingford & Crowmarsh 1-0 in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup.

A late goal from Tyler Robinson tilted the tie in Windsor's favour and ensures they’ll be in the hat for the next round.

Reflecting on the win on Twitter, Woodham said: “It was the ideal game for us as the opposition are well organised and an effective team. We had to work hard all evening to gain the win. There was not a lot between the two teams in fairness but our willingness to stay disciplined and trust each other paid off.”
