Eco initiatives set for ‘COPtober’

-

ROYAL BOROUGH: A series of green events will be taking place once again this month to highlight the climate emergency.

Environmental groups are joining forces for the return of ‘COPtober’, where residents can learn more about climate issues through a series of talks and workshops.

It is being led by the Eco Action for Windsor and Maidenhead group, with an aim of driving change from residents, businesses and the council to combat the crisis.

Last year it was run by the

RBWM Climate Emergency Coalition, an alliance of community groups in the borough working to address the ecological emergency.

The initiative – the second of its kind – will coincide with the COP27 summit, an annual United Nations conference focused on actions to deliver climate targets, held next month in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

COPtober 2022 will run in the Royal Borough from tomorrow (Friday) until Friday, November 18, with events including action to combat draught in the home and making the leap to electric vehicles.

Other activities last year included a repair shop to show people how to make use of items without throwing them away.

Eco Action member Dave Scarbrough said: “2021 marked the first year of COPtober and it was the very first time that local climate, community and volunteer groups mobilised to work together to drive action.

“We were able to reach and engage with more residents than ever before. We want COPtober 2022 to be much bigger and better.”
