Marlow top table after taking down Trojans
Marlow men's 1sts team maintained their near perfect start to the new season with a 5-3 away win at Trojans on Saturday.
Marlow were promoted to the South Central Men’s Premier Division 1 only last season, but look to have a squad capable of challenging for honours once again.
They sit two points clear of their closest challengers, Maidenhead, heading into Saturday's home game with second bottom Reading 2nds at Marlow Sports Club.
On Saturday, last season's top scorer Callum White opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a sublime finish and notched up 50 goals for the club in the process in just his second season. A few minutes later, strike partner Cam BeazleyClark added a second before Trojans grabbed one back just before halftime. Chris Sewell made it 3-1 with a ridiculous piece of skill but the hosts kept fighting back to keep the contest in the balance. White then scored his 51st and 52nd Marlow goals to complete his second hat-trick of the season and
Marlow ran out reasonably comfortable 5-3 winners.
Marlow 2nds took all three points against Oxford Hawks 3rds on Saturday, much to the delight of the home supporters.
The two sides looked well matched in the opening half, but Marlow drew first blood when Dan Field tucked home a shot into the bottom corner.
Hawks fought back and pulled level before halftime, and they went on to gain the ascendancy in the second half only to be thwarted by some excellent defence and alert goalkeeping from Ivor Crampsie.
Marlow then rallied and came out with a late winner when Sammy
Lee converted from a short corner routine.
Marlow Women's 1st were also in action at Southampton on Saturday and the two sides couldn't be separated after a pulsating 2-2 draw.
Marlow fell behind after being caught on the break in the fourth minute, but Kiera Allen equalised from a far post deflection in the eighth minute.
Vic Allen then gave Marlow a 22nd minute lead from another penalty corner but Southampton hit back six minutes later with a clinical finish on the break.
Marlow dominated possession in the second half with some sensational play from player of the match Zoe Clarke, but they weren't able to find a winning goal.
The women's 2nds enjoyed a fine 4-1 home win over Winchester 1sts on Saturday, with Milly Conibear scoring twice and Helena Sykora and Chula Turrell also on target.
