Ashley bags first goal in Magpies win

-

Ashley NathanielGeorge scored his first goal for Maidenhead United since arriving from Southend United in the summer, with his strike helping the Magpies to a stunning win over Chesterfield.

The 27-year-old was on hand in the 50th minute to extend the Magpies’ lead to 2-0 before Tyrone Williams’ grabbed a late consolation for the Spireites.

Nathaniel-George didn’t have an immediate impact after signing for the Magpies and was frequently seen providing more of a defensive service rather than attacking.

But, in the absence of Sam Barratt and Dan Sparkes, he is now showcasing his talent on the wing and is getting rewarded.

Speaking to media officer Grace Scott after the Chesterfield victory, Nathaniel-George said: “I’m just trying to bring goals and assists to the team.

“Hopefully with that, we can start winning [more] games.

“It was a tough game. We suffered a lot throughout and we had to dig in, be compact. Eventually we got our chances and took them.

“I didn’t play much [football] last season so I am just easing my way in. Hopefully I will get better and better.

“All the boys are good [at Maidenhead] and they’re treating me well. No complaints.”

Nathaniel-George scored twice in 32 games for Southend during the 2020/21 campaign before he was released at the end of last season.

He then spent time on trial with Aldershot before beginning the season at Torquay United – the Magpies’ opposition on Tuesday night.

But after one appearance for the Gulls, Nathaniel-George put pen to paper at York Road.
