Dev ‘read riot act’ to players at half-time

-

Assistant manager Ryan Peters revealed Alan Devonshire ‘read the riot act’ to his players at halftime in Maidenhead United’s stellar 2-1 win against Chesterfield in the National League at the Technique Stadium.

The Magpies found themselves only just ahead at the break on Saturday after Koby Arthur found the back of the net from Remy Clerima’s well-weighted pass in the 40th minute.

Much owed to Devonshire’s team talk thereafter, their lead furthered when Ashley NathanielGeorge emphatically rifled in a finish from close range five minutes into the second half.

A late goal from

Tyrone Williams might have caused the Magpies’ management team to start sweating but the players kept their cool to pick up a first away win of the season.

Speaking to media officer Grace Scott at fulltime, Peters said: “It was a tough first half. They were really, really good in the first half and we were well off it.

“The gaffer read the riot act at half-time and we came out flying in fairness. We got our creative players on the ball and scored a great goal.

“It was really tetchy towards the last stages – eight-and-a-half minutes of extra time didn’t help – but we got through the game.”

Peters added: “Big clubs, big stadiums, we’re obviously going to get up for these games and, I’m not saying there are lesser teams, we must start winning those games against the teams that are around us.

“A few games have gone, and we haven’t necessarily done what we should have done so this is a great three points for us. We have got two goals today and we haven’t looked like scoring in a while. We finally got back to winning ways against a really big team.”
