Remy Clerima scored a 95th minute winner as Maidenhead United made it back-to-back league wins to lift themselves clear of the relegation dog fight at the bottom of the table.

United pulled off one of the results of the season so far as they deservedly beat Chesterfield 2-1 at the Technique Stadium on Saturday, but they weren't content to just rest on their laurels and they backed that up with another stirring display against Torquay.

They didn't have things all their own way against the Gulls and found themselves trailing heading into the interval before Charlee Adams scored from the penalty spot in the 12th minute of stoppage time.

In fact, three goals were scored in first half stoppage time, following a lengthy pause in play earlier in the half after Kieron Evans was stretchered off with a nasty looking injury.

Will Goodwin fired the home side ahead and the bottom of the table hosts held onto that narrow lead until the 48th minute, when Emile Acquah was on hand to level the scores.

Parity didn't last long for Devonshire's side, with Aaron Jarvis firing the hosts back in front, however, in the dying embers of an extended first half, Adams swept home a second Magpies' leveller from the penalty spot after a handball was spotted in the area.

By comparison the second half was a tamer affair in terms of incident, however, a game that appeared to be drifting towards a 2-2 draw burst into life in added on time once again.

Having cleared the ball off their own goal line in the 94th minute, Maidenhead broke up field and caught Torquay with the ultimate sucker punch, Clerima netting a 95th minute winner with almost the last kick of the game to send United's away support and coaching team into raptures.

Speaking to Maidenhead United's media officer Grace Scott, Clerima said: “Yeah, it was well deserved. We were 1-0 down, got it back to 1-1, then it was 2-1, 2-2, and to get the winner at the end is an amazing feeling.

“We worked really hard and that's what you get sometimes.”

It was an end-to-end contest, but midfielder Reece Smith always felt the Magpies had a good chance of taking all three points.

“We always felt there was a goal there and we dug deep towards the end,” he said.

Clerima added: “We defended well but having players like Reece coming on gave us a boost and he created a lot of chances, that helped us massively.”
