Team enlisted assistance of a free kick coach

-

Following their stellar 7-0 victory over Woodley United, which featured four successful free kicks, manager Ed JacksonSankey revealed Maidenhead United Women have been working hard on set pieces with the help of a specialist coach.

Megan Halfacree confidently dispatched the majority of the Mapgies’ free-kicks against Woodley United on Sunday, before she kindly let Simone O’Brien try her luck before the game was brought to an end the number 11 making no mistake with the dead ball.

Speaking with media officer Neil Maskell, Jackson-Sankey said:

“We knew how poor our set pieces were at the start of the season so we actually had someone come in to deliver a set piece workshop.

“His sessions and workshops have been great and that paid dividends today.

“We’ve had to take a lot of painful lessons over the last few weeks and it’s still early days in this project.

“Performances have been a little bit below par but I am pleased how things came together today.

“We spoke at half-time about how we dominated the ball a lot in the first half. We just weren’t quite clinical enough and ruthless enough when we got to the final third.

“So, to add another five in the second half is brilliant and it puts us in a really good place.”
