‘Life was made difficult for Blues in early stages of contest’, says Barnard

-

First team coach Adam Barnard wasn’t afraid to admit Holyport made life difficult for Burnham at the 1878 Stadium when he reflected on their league encounter to the Advertiser this week.

Barnard commended manager Sam Lock for his game plan as Port took an early lead, but once Rhys Harper found the back of the net, he could only see one outcome in this clash.

“I’m very pleased with the win,” said Barnard. “The lads overcame a lot of pressure in the early stages and credit to Holyport, they made it a very difficult afternoon for us. We were made to work for the three points.

“It was a good contest. Locky came with a game plan, which included Marlow skipper Chris Ovenden in their midfield, and they made it difficult for us to find a rhythm. Once we composed ourselves and started doing what was asked, the game flipped on its head 10 minutes before half-time and we started to take control of proceedings from then on.”

On the Blues’ next game, Barnard added: “It’s away to Harefield on Tuesday, October 25. We know little about them with the exception of Harry Laflin who we know well.

“One thing we also know is that we need to have the right mindset and continue to do the right things on and off the pitch.”
