Magpies to face the Daggers in FA Cup first round

-

Maidenhead United have been drawn at home to league rivals Dagenham & Redbridge as they seek to reach the second round of the FA Cup for the first time in 136 years.

The Magpies put their name in the hat for Monday’s first round draw with a confident and deserved 2-1 victory over National League South side Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.

Boss Alan Devonshire called Saturday's first round display ‘a job well done' after watching the hosts stride into a 2-0 goal lead thanks to goals from Will De Havilland and an own goal from Borough's Brad Barry before Jake Hutchinson pulled a goal back for the visitors in the dying moments.

United do have some history in the FA Cup, having reached the quarter finals in three successive seasons back in the early 1870s, however, they've failed to go beyond the first-round proper in more than 135 years.

On paper, the Daggers on home soil is a tough, but winnable fixture. They currently sit two places above the Magpies in 11th place having won five of their 14 matches to date.

They booked their place in the first round with a convincing 7-0 away win over Beckenham Town at Eden Park Avenue.

The game against the Daggers will take place between Friday, November 4 and Monday, November 7.

United’s home game against Dagenham is far from the tie of the round however, with near neighbours Bracknell Town drawing former

UEFA Cup and FA Cup champions Ipswich Town.

The Southern League Premier

South side will welcome the Tractor Boys to Bottom Meadow after beating Banbury United 2-1 at home in the final qualifying round on Saturday.

Dan Bayliss scored the winner early in the second half after Max Herbert's opener had been cancelled out by Spasov's 39th minute leveller.

Winning clubs at this stage of the Cup will also pick up £41,000 from the competition prize fund.
