Royalists suffer second defeat in just four days

-

Two defeats in four days have condemned Windsor to 16th place in the Combined Counties Premier Division and having played the second most amount of games in the league, the side could fall further if they don’t get back to winning ways quickly.

On Saturday, the Royalists lost 2-0 to table toppers London Lions at Stag Meadow. Auston Lipmon had put the visitors in front in the 17th minute before Felix Shalom grabbed the second goal in the 31st minute.

Two ‘very good opportunities’ arose for Windsor in the first half of this clash, according to Mick Woodham, and there were even some favourable chances after the interval for his side.

But as the manager explained at full-time: “When you fail to score in your home games there is always a price to pay in terms of taking your medicine or punishment.”

He added: “Two soft goals conceded again in the first half did the damage for us, but we did have two very good opportunities of our own to go in at half time on level terms. We got a little fortunate with their penalty incident in the second half, but I felt that we asked questions throughout the second period and once again, when decent chances came our way, we were unable to convert.

“We finished the game on the front foot and the boys were disappointed with the outcome. We

are having to be patient regarding better performances, and we look forward to Tuesday.”

Disappointingly, the Royalists succumbed to defeat again on Tuesday, losing 4-2 to Egham

Town at home. Danny Campion turned in James Feehan’s cross to open the scoring in the 21st minute before Windsor had parity moments after thanks to Reece York’s own goal, the score 1-1 at half-time.

Campion, however, was able to get his side back in front two minutes after the interval, and he was able to complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot when Jeremiah Debayo brought down former Royalist Excellence Muhemba after the hour mark.

Debayo made amends in the 76th minute, heading in Greg Wright’s corner, to set up a nervy finish for both sides.

However, Egham were the ones to have the final say as, following a red card issued to captain Luke Appleton, David Lopez found the back of the net in added time.

Windsor’s last league victory came on August 29 against Flackwell Heath. Goals from Teddy Woodisse (two) and Barry Hayles delivered the Royalists a 3-0 win.
