Weekend without triumph keeps Bees ninth in table

-

The TSI World Bees remain ninth in the National Ice Hockey League table after another winless weekend.

Doug Sheppard’s Bees played some of their best hockey of the season in Saturday’s 7-5 away defeat to the Romford Raiders but came away with nothing to show for their efforts other than the confidence to know they can mix it with their rivals on the road.

Sunday’s game against the Sheffield Steeldogs at the Slough Ice Arena was another tight affair, but the Bees were edged out 2-1 in a game of few clear-cut chances.

Neither side was able to make the breakthrough in the first period, and the Bees passed up their one powerplay opportunity.

The hockey was faster and more frenetic in the second period, with both sides going close, but a roughing penalty for Alan Lack handed the Steeldogs the chance to take the lead through Bisonette.

The visitors extended their lead during another power play to make it 2-0 in the third period and, although Steeldogs netminder Dmitri Zimozdra proved to be a formidable presence, the Bees did manage to beat him with Vanya Antonov grabbing a goal late on.

Having not tasted victory for a few weeks the Bees will be desperate to get back to winning ways when they host the Raiders tomorrow (Friday, 7.30pm face off).

They then take a trip down the M3 to take on the Basingstoke Bison on Saturday (6.30pm face off) before travelling to Telford to take on the Tigers on

Sunday (6pm face off).
