Another late winner delights manager Bartley as Blues remain in second

-

Back-to-back injury-time winners is a habit Marlow boss Mark Bartley could surely get used to as his side continue their quest for promotion.

The Blues followed up their last-gasp victory over Hanworth Villa with another performance against Bedfont Sports on Saturday which demonstrated the spirit within his squad.

Marlow found themselves with a mountain to climb after Bedfont forward Sam Evans scored twice in the opening 18 minutes to hand the visitors a commanding lead.

But second-half goals from Elijah Oladunjoye, NaheerOmar Nawaf and a crisp injury-time strike from Curtis Chapple capped a remarkable turnaround for the hosts.

Bartley told the Advertiser: “It’s the second week in a row that we’ve scored a winner in the last minute. I think that says a lot about the belief of this side and our fitness levels.

“We’ve worked really hard to get fit and we’ve been able to show that we can keep going until the end.

“It was a big result in the context of the other teams around us.

“The teams that were third, fourth and fifth all lost so it was a good week for us to pick up three points.”

Marlow’s early setbacks could have derailed Bartley’s side but the Blues boss said his players knew they could find a route back into the game if they took their chances.

He added: “I said to the players at half-time ‘if we create that many chances again in the second half, we have to back ourselves to take three of them to win the game’.

“The players could see that for themselves and knew we should’ve been four or five-two up at half-time.”

Defender Elijah Oladunjoye gave the hosts a lifeline in the 58th minute as he caught Bedfont keeper Gary Ross out at his near post.

Naheer-Omar Nawaf then got on the end of a knockdown to bring the hosts level minutes later.

Marlow kept pushing and there was jubilation in stoppage time as Curtis Chapple lashed home after Bedfont tried to clear their lines from a set piece.

The result leaves Marlow second in the Isthmian South Central Division ahead of their clash with Basingstoke Town at the weekend.
