Nisbet is loving life and wants to win the league

Mark Nisbet has affirmed his ambition to win the Combined Counties Premier Division North with Flackwell Heath this season having re-joined the club in September.

Nisbet began his football journey at Wilks Park as an under 9s player before going on to enjoy spells with Burnham, Maidenhead United, and Slough Town.

Now 35-years-old, he is one of the Heathens’ eldest players and able to provide experience and know-how to the youthful side vying for promotion.

Speaking to the Advertiser after Saturday’s victory against North Greenford United, Nisbet said: “The ambition is to try and win the league.

“When I first came in, Ascot were meant to be the favourites, but we have showed we can be up there. It’s all about mentality and consistency now and trying to get past whoever we play.

“We have got to be at the same level every week. That’s the difference between winning the league and finishing mid-table.

“I believe we can do it and we definitely have the players for it. Like I said, it’s just about making sure we turn up and deliver every week.

“They are a good group of boys. I just try to help out with the experience I’ve picked up and a bit of talking on the pitch.

They help me with their legs, and I help them by giving them a bit of advice, positional and all of that. It’s working really well.

“I love it here and it’s good to be back. I started in the u9s, went all the way through junior football, got into the first team, played for a year, and then moved on. I always said I’d be back at some stage in my career.”

Nisbet added: “It was a great performance from the boys today. We had to work hard, battle strong in the first half after their goal.

“Charlie’s (Losasso) wonderful finish made the game level, then his assist to Kieran (Jordan) took us into the lead at half-time.

“The second half was good. Obviously, we now knew what they were about, and we were strong defensively.

“Being in the lead helped. We could just defend and hit them on the counter-attack. They pushed forward quite high and we exploited their spaces.

“The wingers really turned up today. Kieran created a bit of magic by taking his man on, setting up Shakey (Jack Shakespeare) for a great finish and we were able to take all three points.”
