Hurricanes blow Ashridge away while Port’s first team have mixed results

-

Holyport Hurricanes were on cloud nine after their four game unbeaten league and cup run continued with a 90 win against Ashridge Park on Saturday, pushing the side into fourth place. The Hurricanes’ red hot strikers took seven of the nine goal haul with Gabe Nicholson and Robert Smith-Cox both scoring hat-tricks and Mason McCulley adding yet another goal.

Midfielders Charlie Knight and Stanley Wilcockson were also able to get on the scoresheet.

Head coach Darrel Humphreys said: “The back four and keeper were excellent today, and the midfield created the platform for our front men to do their job. Everyone gave a 100 per cent. They kept going until the final whistle, and this was the most complete and mature performance seen so far. All our coaches were delighted and these boys keep getting better and better.”

W Holyport’s first team, meanwhile, fell to their fourth loss of the season on Saturday, as Brendan Matthew and Ollie Harris scored a goal in each half as hosts Ascot United claimed victory.

This contest, though low in scoring, was not without incident and drama as both sides had a man sent off late on.

Matthew was initially stifled by stopper Matteo Giacobbe from the penalty spot but he did find the back of the net from open play just after the half hour mark. The Yellamen then squandered a series of chances in the second half before doubling their lead late on when Harris latched onto a loose ball and rounded Giacobbe to score in added time. This followed the dismissal of Ascot's Marcus Mealing and Holyport’s Kickie Dzimba; Mealing’s for a reckless high challenge, although the former Marlow player claimed he’d slipped.

With Ramon Rose also forced off through injury late in the clash, Ascot capitalised on Port’s nine men to make it 2-0.

On Tuesday, Port enjoyed a muchimproved 90 minutes of football as they beat Hillingdon Borough, 4-1 to progress in the League Cup.

Their goals were scored by Steven Deverall, Kickie Dzimba, Samuel Jones, and Ashley Hunt.
