Maidenhead Swimming Club makes a splash at Winter Championships

-

Maidenhead Swimming Club took its biggest ever team to the South East Region Winter Championships in Winchester this week and claimed some excellent results.

Keen to follow in the wake of former club member, and double Olympic champion, Tom Dean, the Maidenhead swimmers showed excellent promise in the pool.

Head coach Paul Lloyd was confident the team would perform well but even he was surprised by the level of performance from all who competed.

William Dean, brother of Tom, produced an encouraging swim as he took gold in the 200m breaststroke and bronze in the 400m medley taking 10 seconds off his lifetime best in the process.

Louise Ashford was also delighted to return with a bronze medal in the 800m freestyle, going under nine minutes in the event for the first time.

Johnny Ireland also earned junior championships bronze following a strong swim in the 200m backstroke.

While there were no further medals, Henry Benton, Johnny Ireland, William Dean and Louise Ashford all posted national qualifying times to ensure their place in the Swim England Short Course National Championships in December.
