Marlow to test their mettle against fellow promotion favourites Chinnor

-

Marlow face the biggest test yet of their promotion credentials when they host unbeaten Chinnor 3rds at Riverwoods on Saturday.

In what promises to be an explosive, and potentially pivotal match, the two sides with 100 per cent records so far this season clash will be keen to maintain the momentum they've built up so far this season.

Marlow have played a game more, and sit five points above their rivals, but there really is very little to choose between the two in terms of results.

Rory Greenslade-Jones’ side are the highest scorers, having notched up 321 points, but they’ve also conceded more points, 134 to Chinnor’s parsimonious 85 points. Marlow head into the game off the back of Saturday's narrow, but deserved 35-31 victory at Bracknell 2nds, while Chinnor haven't played since their 34-31 win at Gosford All Blacks on October 29.

Looking ahead to the top-of-the-table clash, Greenslade-Jones said: “They’re unbeaten, we’re unbeaten so it should be an interesting game. We’ve got a couple of boys back from injury so we’re looking forward to it being at home and hopefully we can continue our momentum. We know all about them. It’s their amateur team, they have a couple of good players who've been mentioned to us, and they play a similar style of rugby to us.

“We’ll continue what we’ve been doing, try to be strong in the set piece and the breakdown area. It’s imperative that you're strong in those areas or that's where you lose the game. We’ll keep doing what we’re doing and hopefully we can put them to the sword at our place.”

In Regional 2 Thames, Windsor failed to build on their victory over Old Haberdashers, as they went down to a 27-14 defeat to London side Fullerians.

Andrew Symons side have managed just one victory all season, but they’ll be eyeing another one on Saturday when they host Aylesbury, one of the sides just about them in the table at Home Park.

Slough secured their second narrow win on the spin, beating Aldermaston 32-27 away from home in Counties 2 Tribute Berks/Bucks & Oxon South.

The fifth-place side are home to eight-placed Beaconsfield 2nds on Saturday afternoon.
