Adams says nerves didn’t creep into tie with Daggers

-

Charlee Adams was quick to refute Maidenhead United let nerves creep into their game against Dagenham & Redbridge in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

It took until the 81st minute for the deadlock to be broken between the Magpies and the Daggers at York Road, with Joshua Walker the man to do it for the latter from 12 yards out.

Had they emerged victorious over Daryl McMahon’s side on Saturday, Alan Devonshire’s men would have made history by reaching the second round of the FA Cup for the first time in 136 years.

After the match, Adams said he was ‘very disappointed’ to not go through and briefly reflected on his display.

“The sending off in the second half didn’t help, but we just weren’t really at it all game and I don’t know why,” he said.

“Our tempo wasn’t great which was a shame because it has been lately. We’re very disappointed not to get into the second round.

“No, not at all [did nerves impact the game], not from my point of view anyway. It was just like a normal league game, it was not like we were facing a club from a league or two higher. It’s disappointing. We’ll have to just pick ourselves up and go again next year.”

He added: “I thought I was a little bit off it today compared to how I have been doing lately.

Adams has proven to be one of the Magpies’ best and irreplaceable players this season.

Currently, the midfielder is joint top scorer with forward Emile Acquah (below) on three goals.
