Magpies’ ‘valiant’ effort hushes up Huish Park

Maidenhead United FC: United stifle their hosts with impressive away display

-

Maidenhead United’s ‘valiant’ effort fell just short of victory on Tuesday as they were held by Yeovil Town at Huish Park.

The Magpies travelled to Somerset looking to bounce back from Saturday’s disappointing first round exit in the FA Cup, and backed by a band of loyal supporters, they produced a performance that was deserving of maybe more than just the one point. The visitors once again lacked a goal threat, with many of their more creative players out injured, but they shaded proceedings throughout and assistant boss Ryan Peters couldn’t fault the part-time side's commitment to the cause.

Speaking to Maidenhead’s press officer, Grace Scott afterwards, he said: “It was a valiant effort, we performed well and battled hard with a depleted side. To do as well as we have done is impressive.

“There were a couple of horrible tackles on Koby (Arthur) and Charlee (Adams) which we got nothing for, and a few of the boys are hobbling now.

“We’ve got a really depleted side right now and we’ll have to see how they are at training on Thursday.

“What you saw is what we have (available to us). When we have Sammy Barratt and a few other people back, then of course you are going to create more chances on goal. But, at

the moment, the boys that are playing are doing well.

“It’s not for the want of trying and, on another day, one of those crosses that we put in gets put into the back of the net.

On United’s supporters, he added: “That’s our fans. Tuesday night, to come all the way out to here. They’re amazing. I spoke to some of them, and they've had a horrible trip up here and I hope they have a safe trip back.

Let’s hope we see them again on Saturday.

“It’s a struggle but we’ve been in this league long enough to know that. These boys will get back 1.30am/2am and they’re going to be up at 6am for work. That’s just us unfortunately, but we make no excuses for it, and we look forward to training on Thursday and the game at Aldershot on Saturday.”
