First half goals condemn Windsor to a ninth defeat

-

Edgware & Kingsbury were the latest side to condemn Windsor to defeat in the Combined Counties Premier Division North but, according to captain Jake Brown, they didn’t deserve to.

First half goals from Hafid Bounyafe and Nico Papov were enough to settle this contest on Saturday afternoon with the final score 2-0 at Silver Jubilee Park.

Afterwards, Brown told the Advertiser: “Were Edgware & Kingsbury deserved winners? I don’t think so. They had good spells but, overall, I thought we had a better control of the game and let ourselves down by not taking our chances.

“Two very avoidable goals in 20 minutes gave us a mountain to climb.

“The message before the game was very clear – we wouldn’t take any risks at the back, and we would bring the game to them.

“My words, as captain, were ‘go out and play with confidence but don’t overcomplicate things’, as most of our goals conceded come from our own mistakes.

“We were all very disappointed with the outcome of the game. We thought we should have got something.

“It wasn’t a bad performance though so we can’t be too hard on ourselves.”

The loss sees the Royalists fall to 16th with only three wins from their 14 league matches. They are next in league action on Saturday, November 19 when they face Broadfields United away.

Brown added: “That isn’t a position where any club wants to be. I do think that anyone can beat anyone in this league though and if we can get a few wins in the upcoming weeks, we will be where we really want to be.

“There’s been a lot of players in and out this season including me. It’s pretty much a new team compared to last year, so the focus is on continuing to gel together.

“It’s been enjoyable playing under Mick (Woodham). He’s a good manager and very approachable. He wants the best out of us and we, as a team, will give him everything until the end of the season.”
