Pupils at a primary school in the town helped to plant trees, saplings, and bulbs in the school grounds last week.

The tree planting event took place on Wednesday, November 9 and was organised by researcher Annabel Chaffey, from Eton Bridge Partners, and Riverside Primary School’s deputy headteacher Lauren Porter.

As part of the company’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiative, Eton Bridge Partners, a Windsor-based interim management and consulting firm, was seeking ways to give back to the environment in the area and plant 100 trees before the end of the year.

It also marks the company reaching 100 employees, and forms part of its ongoing Giving Back Agenda to work more closely in the community, supporting environmental and social projects.

At 9.30am, a team of 25 helpers from the company arrived at the school and worked with pupils from year groups three to six to plant trees, saplings, and bulbs in the school groups.

Some of the team also aided in clearing an area

that will be used to create a forest school which will enable youngsters to spend more time outside and develop their self-esteem and confidence through ‘handson learning in a woodland environment’.

Pupils worked with the team to plant five large trees in the school playing fields.

Lauren Porter, deputy headteacher at Riverside Primary School, said: “Lots of hard work was required and the children did a fantastic job digging and helping to make sure the trees have the very best start to life in their new homes at school.”

Children from nursery, reception, and years one and two aided in planting saplings along the school fence line, as well as also getting involved in the digging and planted lots of bulbs reading for spring.

Miss Porter added: “Everyone involved really enjoyed themselves and the children are looking forward to watching the trees and bulbs grow. It was a great experience for everyone and hopefully the start of a collaborative partnership.”
