Telecomms masts must be sited carefully
Whilst 5G masts are designed to provide improved mobile coverage and fast internet, I believe that these masts should only be located at appropriate sites and their impact minimised.
Resisting planning applications for 5G masts is neither easy nor straightforward.
I objected to the mast proposed for the corner of Mill Lane in Cookham, and the council rightly refused planning permission.
Sadly, the applicant has now lodged an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate, so I’ve submitted further objections to them and hope they will reject this appeal.
With ever more applications for 5G masts being submitted, I will do all I can to resist unwanted and unsightly masts in inappropriate locations.
I suggest the following would be a sensible approach:
1) Planning officers and applicants should engage earlier with residents to understand our concerns and seek acceptable solutions 2) Concerns regarding radiation/emissions must be properly addressed
3) Masts should only be considered where proven to be absolutely necessary 4) Residents should be consulted on proposed locations and alternative options 5) No masts should be sited close to houses, schools or conservation areas 6) Mast locations must not harm the character of our village or countryside 7) Where masts are approved, every effort should be made to disguise them to minimise their visibility / impact
