King brings the curtain down with fine double win

-

Holyport’s Harry King has brought the curtain down on another successful season with a fine double victory on his debut run in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Middle East.

Off the back of a strong season, which saw him crowned Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux champion, King travelled to Bahrain to guest drive in the Lechner Racing team organised event.

King, who also stood on the podium on several occasions throughout the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2022 season, wasted little time in getting up to speed on the Sakhir circuit, putting his Pure Racing-run car onto pole ahead of fellow guest entrant Harri Jones.

Having held off the challengers behind him into the first turn, he went on to stamp his authority all over the opening race and took the chequered flag more than 30 seconds ahead of eventual runner-up Ghislain Cordeel, a season-long rival in the Benelux Series.

His fastest lap was well over a second quicker than anyone else on the circuit. In race two, King was again able to keep Jones at bay on the run into turn one, before building a sizeable gap over the newly crowned Australian Carrera Cup Champion.

Easing away to victory once again, King won the race by more than 10 seconds from Jones to claim his 11th victory of another successful season.

King will next compete in the Porsche Junior Shootout where he will strengthen his ties with the Lechner Racing brand and hope to secure the top prize which includes financial backing for the 2023 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

“It’s been a hugely successful weekend and I’m really pleased with how things panned out in Bahrain,” King said.

“Obviously I wanted to go there and win, but I also had some personal goals that I wanted to achieve, and things can’t go much better than a weekend with two pole positions, two wins and two fastest laps.

“I had to dig deep to maximise the results on track, and it was the ideal preparation for the upcoming Porsche Junior Shootout, as well as a fantastic chance to show what I can do in front of the watching World Endurance Championship teams.”
