Men share spoils after entertaining clash while women lose to Oxford

-

Maidenhead men’s 1sts picked up a point from their trip to Winchester on Saturday, the side's playing out a thoroughly entertaining 3-3 draw at the Winchester University Stadium Bar End.

Phil Cowell’s side have shown solid form throughout the season so far, the only blot on that copybook coming at home to Henley in a 2-1 defeat two weeks ago.

With two wins and three draws to their name so far, they sit fifth in the table, a point behind Saturday’s visitors to Altwood

School, Trojans. After an indifferent start, Trojans have found form in recent weeks, putting six goals past Oxford OBU and Basingstoke, while they edged out Slough 3-2 on Saturday. Saturday’s win was even more impressive considering they had the stuffing knocked out of them by a 10-3 defeat to leaders Banbury the previous weekend.

In the South Central Women’s Premier Division 1, Maidenhead’s hopes of progressing up the league suffered a setback as they were beaten 1-0 by Oxford on Saturday. Their up and down season has seen them alternately win and lose matches so far, however, if that pattern is to be repeated, they should fancy their chances at home to seventh-placed Marlow on Saturday. Marlow drew for the third time this season, sharing the spoils with Oxford Hawks at Pound Lane. However, their form is generally improving with the side having beaten Amersham & Chalfont and Havant in successive games.
