Aylesbury condemn the Royals to a ninth defeat

Buckinghamshire outfit come from behind to win at Home Park

-

Windsor 20, Aylesbury 43 Windsor fell to their ninth defeat in 10 league games at the hands of a tireless and tenacious Aylesbury outfit on Saturday.

This was truly a game of two halves at Home Park as Andy Symons’ men had the advantage at the break before their opponents nosed ahead and concluded the game with a considerable lead.

At full time, Symons said of the result: “It’s very disappointing, of course, but the team never disappointed me in terms of effort, commitment, and backing each other up.

“There are just details in our game we need to get right, especially against good teams.

“It’s been a very interesting couple of blocks. There is a lot to learn, but I’m very positive.”

Windsor chalked up the first try of the game in the first minute of play as Luke Budd held off Sam Page and rolled himself over the line.

After failing to add the extras the first time of asking, Ben Grant-Adamson made amends in the 10th minute with a penalty kick, the score 8-0.

Aylesbury registered their first points of the match in the 16th minute – Page using his lightning quick pace to get the ball down and Will Andrews succeeding with the conversion.

Now with the lion’s share of possession, the visiting side pushed and pulled the ball over the line again in the 24th minute.

Windsor’s response to this try, however, was immediate with Budd scoring his side another handful of points while Grant-Adamson’s subsequent kick clattered the crossbar.

Some slick passing enabled Aylesbury to get up the field and another try was touched down in the corner by Jonty Charlier in the 36th minute, the score 13-17.

Much to the delight of Windsor’s men on the sidelines, the hosts had the final say of the first half when the ball went over in a rolling maul.

With Grant-Adamson adding the extras, the score at the break was 20-17.

A seemingly short interval might have owed to Windsor falling behind swiftly in the second half.

From back to front in a flash, Evan Davies was the man to get Aylesbury five points and the extras were good.

The next incident of note was the dismissals of James Cullen and Aylesbury’s number 19 for what looked like an altercation following a controversial tackle.

Buckland got the scoreboard ticking over again in the 56th minute, putting the ball down off the back of a maul with the following conversion just wide.

Grant-Adamson was desperately unlucky with his penalty kick from the middle of the park next, the score remaining 20-29.

With considerable possession in the closing stages, the visitors made it count. Charlier first scored, having been the front runner in a breakaway, before Kareem Olayinka got himself in on the action.

Both tries were complimented with extras before the referee blew the final whistle.

Next up for Windsor is a journey to Old Priorians for their clash on November 26.

Meanwhile, Aylesbury – who remain ninth in the league – welcome Beaconsfield to Ostler’s Field.
