Blues lacked composure in possession as they're held by Channel Islanders

-

Like in their game at Southall the previous week, Marlow once again saw plenty of the ball without being able to do that much with it, as they were held to a disappointing home draw against Guernsey.

The visitors grabbed the game's first goal very much against the run of play and managed to hold onto that advantage until five minutes before the end, when Aaron McLeish-White turned home Naheer-Omar Nawaf's low cross.

The Blues might have nicked all three points at the death, but that would have been harsh on Guernsey who worked diligently and put bodies on the line to ensure they took a point with them

back to the Channel Islands.

Afterwards, Blues boss Mark Bartley admitted he would look to work on the side’s creativity in possession as he looks to get them back to winning ways at 15th placed

Leatherhead on Saturday.

“We were just saying, we had a lot of the ball, but we’ve not done enough with,” he said.

“Our movement hasn’t been good enough. I still think that there’s been enough half chances for us to win the game. But yeah, our quality wasn’t good enough in possession today and it was a bit like that last week, and it looks like that again today, so we have a bit of work to do on that.

“We had to know that (Guernsey scoring) was a possibility. They were all about going to their nine, and him winning the headers and getting in behind. We were aware of that, but we didn’t track our runners and they’ve gone and scored and that’s made it harder for us. After that we had most of it, but again, it wasn’t good enough.

“From my perspective the last couple of weeks we’ve not been good enough in possession. But we still look like we’re creating, and I think we should have had a couple of penalties today, will be interesting to watch that back. Sometimes those things change games.”

Two games without a win have dropped the Blues back to fifth in the table, but Bartley is confident they can rediscover their clinical edge before this blip becomes something more serious.

He said: “I guess the hallmarks of a good side, if this us a little bit sticky and not firing,

I think we still carried a threat, and I don’t think it looked like we were giving away a lot.

“When you get to the end of the season, you must put things into context, and you will always have that spell where things don’t quite click for whatever reason.

“This is a bit of that for us, but we’re still getting in behind. We had some chances where we should have pulled the ball back, but we fizzed it across, so yeah.

“It feels like two points dropped, but the important thing in these games is that if you’re not good enough to win, you don’t lose them. We take that forward and make sure we’re ready for next week.”
