Rough couple of weeks for Ben’s Burnham

-

It's been a tough couple of weeks for Burnham FC, who've slipped to fifth in the Combined Counties Premier Division North table after successive defeats to promotion rivals Ascot United and Reading City.

Ben Murray's men were far from their best in either match, allowing the Yellamen to dictate much of last week's 2-1 defeat at the Racecourse Ground, responding in the dying moments through a penalty from Oliver Bishop.

They weren't any better against new leaders, Reading City. Bishop was again on the scoresheet for the visitors, but the Cityzens ran out comfortable winners thanks to goals from Ellis Cowd, Edward William Lee and Philip Veal.

It leaves them five points off the top - having been at the summit just two matches ago

themselves - heading into another crucial test at home to Flackwell Heath at the 1878 Stadium on Saturday. The match is sure to be a feisty and competitive derby affair as several players from both sides train with each other at the FAB Academy.

The Blues had been due to play 18th placed North Greenford United on Tuesday night, but the match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Elsewhere in the division, it's been a quiet week for Windsor, who didn't play in either the league or cup.

Mick Woodham's side have struggled for form of late, winning just three of their 14 league matches to date.

They ended a long run of matches without a league win when they overcame Spelthorne Sports at Stag Meadow on October 29, but since then they've lost heavily to Reading City - 5-0 on home soil - and been comfortably beaten away by Edgeware & Kingsbury.

Where the Royalists' form goes from here, it's hard to tell, but the 16th placed side will be hopeful of a more positive performance and some points from Saturday's trip to 14th placed Broadfields United.
